Hulu Awards: The SF Winners

Hulu have announced the winner of their first award thing.  The categories were strange, and the "finalists" where not always what you would want to vote for.  Several Speculative Fiction series, movies, and clips won.  Here they are:

Really!?! Award

To no ones surprise the winner of the Realy!?! Award went to Triumph the Insult Dog mocking Star Wars fans on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

The idea that it is funny to mock Star Wars fans for not being molested by priests. I get tired of the idea that fans don't have sex. I assume these people don't know any fans, and I am sure they have never been to a convention. Most of the fans I know have too much sex. Gah, and am not going to get into my stop turning conventions into orgies rant here, but ugh. Stupid mundane people having stupid fun. Ugh.

Best Trailer

The Watchmen! It is going to be hard to beat the Watchmen for best movie of the year, and this trailer is a great promo for it.

The Show We'd bring back

Firefly! It is close to impossible to find anyone who has seen Firefly who doesn't want more.

After Watchmen - What's Next? Identity Crisis!

DC Comics is trying to encourage people who have read Watchmen Graphic novel to discover other graphic novels:

Five “AFTER WATCHMEN, WHAT’S NEXT?” Specials featuring a cover price of just $1.00:

Don't get too excited, these are not full graphic novels, they are promotional issues to wet readers appetites.

Identity Crisis

If you enjoyed Watchmen, I would recomend Identity Crisis:

When the spouse of a JLA [Justice League of America] member is brutally murdered, the entire super-hero community searches for the killer, fearing their own loved ones may be the next targets! But before the mystery is fully solved, a number of long-buried secrets rise to the surface, threatening to tear apart and divide the heroes before they can bring the mysterious killer to justice (DC Comics).

I loved this graphic novel.  The superhero murder mystery is very well written.  It would make a great movie to follow the Watchmen.

Watchmen Trial Delayed!

watchmen_smileyThe Watchmen trial has been moved back to January 20, 2009 at the request of both Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox.

The judge declared that he could not make a summary judgement because the contracts in question are so open to interpretation, and that a trial is required (/Film).

I am  not sure how this could effect the release of the film, but trials can take a long time and Fox is determined to stop this film from coming out.

Headlings for August 19th

Here are some quick headlines for August 19th:

Watchmen Video Game Prequel

watchmen Warner Bros. announced Wednesday it will release an episodic downloadable video game developed by Deadline Games that will prequel next year's big-screen adaptation of the "Watchmen" graphic novel pegged to the film's March debut (AP).

This is an interesting idea.  I am not sure exactly how this will work out in real world.  I hope they are able to pull off the story elements and especially the game play and cost.  Deadline Games is developing the game for the Xbox 360, PS3, and the PC.

This is an interesting idea and it could really help bring people into the setting, but if the quality of the game is on par with most movie related games, it could have the exact opposite effect.
