SF News Bites: Akira Lives?, Stan Lee's Super Seven Series Online

Akira Lives?

Albert and Allen Hughes are finalizing a deal to direct the live-action Akira. So it's still in the works but I don't have hopes of seeing the movie any year soon. (via /Film)

Stan lee's Super Seven Series

Stan lee's Super Seven Series is a new project which will be distributed in print, online, on air, and retail channels. It’s nice to see more comics especially one of the big boys adding the simultaneous online distribution model to the mix.

The series will be about: Seven aliens who find themselves stranded on planet Earth after their spaceship crashes, only to be befriended by none other than Lee himself. Taking them under his care, Lee becomes their leader and enables them to resume their lives as superheroes on earth.

Stan Lee is excited because it’s "the first time that I’ll actually be a continuing character in a far-out, original superhero series.”

I enjoyed his cameo’s in the various marvel movies and think it would be fun to see him as a reoccurring character.

Sharktopus Syfy Original Movie?

Syfy is putting Sharktopus into the works for an original movie with Roger Corman making it.  I would be surprised if it were any worse then some of their latest ones like Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.  (via SCI FI Wire)

SF News Bites: Riddick Three In The Works, Rapunzel Now Tangled

Riddick Image via Wikipedia

Riddick Three In The Works

David Twohy, writer and director of first two Riddick movies and Vin Diesel are reteaming for a third Riddick picture.

Plot details are being kept under wraps. But insiders say the third outing will hew closer in tone to the cult hit "Pitch Black" and will focus on the character of Riddick as opposed to the universe he inhabits… (via Variety)

Rapunzel Now Tangled

Walt Disney Animation Studio’s renamed their 2010 release Rapunzel to Tangled. I’m glad to see that they are going for a new name.  The waters are getting too muddied with multiple movies out with the same name and little else in common.

I think if your going to do a fresh smart take on a story why not give it a new name and allow it to stand on it’s own.  This is a nice change and I hope a new pattern in movie naming convention

Doctor Who By Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman is penning an episode for Steven Moffat's Doctor Who.  The episode is to air early in Season Six.

-- it's quite possible that I might have written an episode. And if I had, it would originally have been called, 'The House of Nothing,' but it definitely isn't called that any more."

That rocks!  I can’t wait to watch the episode.

What do you think the episode could be about with the working title The House of Nothing?

SF News Bites: Captain America’s Prep, Teen Wolf TV Director

Captain America’s in prep:

Joe Johnston gives some updates on Captain America:

    • “We’re in prep,”
    • The film, he says at this early stage, will begin “in 1942, 1943″ during World War II. “The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we’re sort of avoiding.

I like hearing that they are at least considering beginning Captain America during World War II.  I wonder how much of the film will be about the super soldier program?

SF News Bites: Avengers, Transformers 3, Conan The Barbarian and Mortal Kombat

Ronon Dex Image via Wikipedia

Avengers

Producer Kevin Feige confirms the main characters in the Avengers movie.  "It’s three people – four including the Hulk; five including Nick Fury – who you’ve seen before in other movies, coming together for the very first time.”  I can only hope that this movie is as good as Ultimate Avengers animated movie.  (via Gay Sci-Fi Nerds)

Transformers  3

In the works as expected.  Currently Michael Bay is moving along with the script and scouting locations for Transformers 3: Chicago, Detroit, and Washington D.C.  I really enjoyed the first two Transformers movies my main concern is in the script. (via SCI FI Wire)

Conan the Barbarian

Jason Momoa has been cast as the New Conan The Barbarian.  I'm excited with that pick.  Jason's a great guy, talented actor and can physically fill the role of Conan.  Most are familiar with him playing as Ronon Dex from Stargate: Atlantis  (via /Film)

Mortal Kombat

A Mortal Kombat redo is in the works, they have selected a writer Oren Uziel.  The hope at /Film is that he will bring more depth to the Mortal Kombat movies then the previous films.  I like the idea of adding more story depth to the Mortal Kombat movies but that can not be at the cost of loosing what made the series so great.  They are so much fun to watch.

SF News Bites: Glee, Merlin, Iron Man 2 and Stone Age Medicine

Glee

Season two brings us hope and promise for Kurt to find a new boyfriend.  I'm excited over this prospect because Glee has a track record of being very respectful in their portrayal of minorities.  In addition to that they have done such a great job in representing Kurt as a gay character especially in the episode when he comes out to his friends and family.  (via 365gay)

Merlin

Merlin Season two will be aired in the US on SyFy starting April 2. (via Whedonesque)

Iron Man 2

For those chomping at the bit to see anything out for Iron Man2 there is a gallery of pictures via Filmonic.  They are stills of the main images represented in the trailer Iron Man 2 Official Trailer and video.

AD/DC has a new album due to release April 19th called AC/DC: Iron Man 2.  It's a collection of their songs to be featured in Iron Man 2.  Preorder your copy here: Iron Man 2 (Deluxe CD/ DVD Package). They have also posted a video of "Shoot To Thrill."  (via AC/DC)

Stone Age Medicine

Bit of Odd news, stone age medicine more advanced than thought.  Evidence found to show amputation performed in sterile conditions (via Unexplained Mysteries)
