The latest X-Men Origins: Wolverine Trailer

I’ve gone back and forth with the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie.  I want to be excited.  I want to love this move but I have been let down too many times with Hollywood’s X-Men movie franchise. I love the X-men and the story behind the characters yet Hollywood has not done a very good job translating that story and characters into the movie medium.  Take for instance their latest debacle being Phoenix in X-Men 3.

The earlier trailers and information about this film has lead me to believe that this would have little to do with the comic character Wolverine and more to do with the movie franchise mess.  Read A video look at X-Men Origins: Wolverine for more information.

After watching this latest video I have a little more hope.  It looks like they got the chemistry right between Wolverine and Sabretooth when we get to see the brief moments of them interacting.

It saddens me that for a movie I so want to love and look forward to I have to reduce my hopes to the spectacle in order to find hope.  The spectacle does look good but X-Men should be more than a spectacle flick.

Phoenix in Flames

This beautiful Pheonix by ~EnnostielTheAviatrix nestled in a field of flames brilliantly renders the power and the glory of the mythic bird in a way that is both classic and abstract.

The way the lines so easily get lost in the fiery background shows the ubiquity of the great birds power as a vessel of immortal life and highlights the elusiveness of the beast.  I find myself staring deep into the image hoping it will still be there when I close my eyes.

She will fill Bellatrix Lestrange's shoes

C.E. Dorsett This is a great casting choice:

Helena Bonham Carter, an Oscar nominee for The Wings of the Dove, who most recently starred in the hit film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has joined the all-star cast of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Bonham Carter will play Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black's cousin and a Death Eater, who is one of Lord Voldemort's followers (WB Press Release).

She looks like Lestrange, and will be able to pull off the role. I can't wait to see this film.

Order of Phoenix Cast Announced

Here it comes:

Warner Brothers announced the start of production on the fifth Harry Potter movie, The Order of the Phoenix, and also revealed additional casting for the movie, including Imelda Staunton and 14-year-old newcomer Evanna Lynch, who beat more than 15,000 hopefuls at an open casting call to play Luna Lovegood.

As production gears up at England's Leavesden Studios, new cast members include Staunton as Dolores Umbridge, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher; George Harris as Kingsley Shacklebolt; Helen McCrory as Bellatrix Lestrange; Natalia Tena as Nymphadora Tonks; Kathryn Hunter as Mrs. Figg; and Lynch, who plays Lovegood, a Ravenclaw student who becomes an important ally of Harry, Ron and Hermione (SciFi Wire).

Goblet of Fire was a better movie than Prisoner of Azkaban movie, so I hope this one will be good too.  I am concerned about the appearance of the Thestrals and Harry's detentions (you know what I mean).  I hope they don't cheat on these horror elements.

Super Heroes, Vampires, and Gwen Stacy, Oh My

X3: Images and Trailer on Site Images and a Teaser Trailer have been added to the X-men 3 official movie site. Beast and Angel look good, but I am concerned about how they are going to explain Jean Grey's return when the word Phoenix does not appear on the site (at least, not yet), and there is no pic of Juggernaut in his helmet. X2 was light years better than the first movie, I can only hope this one continues the improvements.

Underworld Evolution Released!

I have a weakness for vampires, you know, and I love werewolves. The first Underworld film was one of my favorite movies of recent years. I will see this movie Sunday... review to come [Official Movie Site]

Spiderman 3 to include Gwen Stacy?

In the next Spiderman movie, we will get to see Spidey fight off Sandman, and maybe another woman? Rumor has it Sam Rami has cast Bryce Dallas Howard to play Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's first love from the comics. I guess she will compete with Mary Jane for Peter's heart. Unfortunately, I know who wins...
