Game of Thrawn

As I, like many other fans, am trying to get excited about Star Wars VII, and it has not been easy.  Sunday, Brian and I were talking about what we wished they would have done, and I said, "I just want Star Wars: Game of Thrawn."

I immediately pulled out my laptop and started making a movie poster.  I grabbed a photo of the Iron Throne and  Sketches276 by B321618, which is a kick ass picture of Grand Admiral Thrawn, and I made this-

What do you think?  I don't often take the time to do pictures like this.  Let me know if you want me to do things like this more often.

Sorcerer's Apprentice Fantasia Mash-Up

This is a really cool mashup of scenes from Sorcerer's Apprentice and Fantasia.  Watch the video above.

They did a great job using the autotuner to turn the dialogue from the Sorcerer's Apprentice clips into musical notes blending them nicely into the music from Fantasia.  I also enjoyed the modern beat added to the music updating it without lessening the original.

I love it when a big studio sanctions a mashup.  It's like watching the kids grow up and get accepted as an adult in the world.

Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce vs. Metallica - Enter Telephone

Warning: This video contains half-naked Gaga, which may not be safe for work.

Now, that is what I'm talking about!  Lady Gaga and Beyonce meets Metallica, this is a marriage made on the border of heaven, hell, and huh?

The DJ from Mars took a good dance toon, and turned it into a party favorite (must have played it 4 or 5 times the other night).  Great work, I need more metal Gaga, Marylin Manson vs Pokerface anyone?

Mashup-Germany - Imagine One Day (So Far Away)

Ok, it's not that hard to make me cry, but I watched this song make a lot of people go misty-eyed.  Mash-up Germany's masterpiece Imagine One Day (So Far Away) blends  Matisyahu, John Lennon, Blink 182, Gentleman, and Bob Marley, and yes they found a way to even make the Blink 182 song good.

Matisyahu – One Day (Acapella) + Matisyahu feat. Akon – One Day (Instrumental) + John Lennon – Imagine (Acapella) + Blink 182 – All the Small Things (Acapella) + Bob Marley – No Woman, No Cry (Acapella) + Gentleman – Dem Gone (Live at Cologne) = Amazing

Give it a listen, and tell me what you think.

Exploring: Glee Season 2

I'm so excited that Glee is returning with a new season!  This is one of the best shows that is also not your typical musical show.  What makes Glee so great is it's engaging story line, many characters to care about, great lessons like follow your bliss and be who you are, promotion of mashups and singing that is often better than the original scores.

What will Season Two Bring

  • Everyone in New Directions (Schuester's Glee Club) is preparing for the Regional competition against their main opponents Vocal Adrenaline
  • Kurt will find a boyfriend
  • The Finn and Rachel relationship will take some rocky turns:  Rachel starts dating the star of Vocal Adrenaline  Jesse St. James as he comes between them meanwhile Sue will have Santana Lopez and Brittany try to seduce Finn.
  • We will get to see how Will Schuester and  Emma Pillsbury handles their relations ship in the aftermath of Will's divorce and with both admitting openly their feelings for each other.
  • April Rhodes will return hopefully with a successful story about her time on Broadway.
  • Olivia Newton-John will make a guest appearance this season.  She will join Sue Sylvester in a musical number together.
  • The Power of Madonna is the second episode of season two featuring 10 Madonna covers!  We will also get to see Sue go gaga over Madonna which I love to see Sue excited over anything other then destroying and strong arming others.

Glee Season two premiers April 13th

Weird: The Muppets Big Mean Carl's Stand By Me

ROFL, Muppets they will be the death of me.  I love these videos a little too much.

Big Mean Carl sings / performs Stand By Me Ben E. King - Ben E. King: Anthology - Stand by Me.  The chorus is hilarious plus the end of the video has the two grumpy men joke comments.

What do you think about doing some kind of weekly shtick consisting of a mashup inspired by them and worse persons for Fandom Today?

Christopher Walken Performing Poker Face Mashup

Christopher Walken is a brilliant performer, dancer and has a great sense of humor.  The video below is yet another example of not only that brilliance but how a mashup can culturally make it even better. A while back Christopher Walken did a reading performance of lady Gaga's Poker face on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross BBC1.  This reading was very funny to watch leaving me chuckling and doing my own impression of Walken saying "P P P poker face... poker face."  Then DJ Leekee took it up a notch with a video mashup!

Lady Gaga vs Christopher Walken-Poker Face(Mashup).  Watch the video below.

What is a Vid

Vids, Vidders, and Vidding is a growing cultural expression of fandom, music, and video.  See an example above.

A vid is a short video that tells a narrative by combining the video from a Movie, TV show, or Web Series and a song for the audio track setting the tone and direction of the story.  In other words it's a cross medium mashup.

Vidders are those artists / fans who cut together the vids whereas vidding is the act of producing a vid.

Cultural Advantages

  • Fans can express and play in the franchises that they love.
  • It becomes a great promotional vehicle for both the music artist and the franchise.
  • It enhances our cultural experience of both video content and music.

  • There is much fear, uncertainty, and doubt surrounding the topic.
  • Fear of reprisal from the copyright holders.
  • Fear amongst copyright holders of loosing control over their content and loosing money.

What We Need

  1. Recognize the cultural value of vids.
  2. Get over our fears.
  3. Open a dialogue to come up with a compromise that will allow both parties to win.

If you would like to join in the conversation head over to Project: Shadow  what is your definition of a vid? - Project: Shadow.

Number of Da Boots

Ok I am not one who talks too openly about my bastard pop addiction, but this is one of those time to share. Celebrity Murder party have out done themselves on this album. Moody, dreamy, and it rocks harder than any of album that I have heard for a long time. This is up there with the classics like the Kleptones' "24," and Dean Gray's "American Edit." Check out the article on Mashuptown for more information.

Wow, this is going to be in the mix for a long time to come. I love the mix of pop, metal, rap, and reggae. This is a great album. My love for Iron Maiden is reborn, I guess this means they will be moving up on my now.
