Severus Snape "I Will Survive"

Severus Snape "I Will Survive"

At first, I laughed at what this video.  Let’s face it, Severus Snape edited over Gloria Gaynor’s “I will Survive” is funny.  About half way through, I started thinking about the events of book 7…

When you watch the video as a Snape - Voldemort dynamic, it becomes oddly poignant.  What do you think?

Five new Harry Potter Clips for The Half-Blood Prince

ABC aired five one minute Harry Potter clips previews.  Each one gives a little glimpse into what they will cover in the movie and includes interviews with cast and crew.

The Half-Blood Prince will delve deeper into the story behind Tom Riddle

and the secret that Professor Slughorn holds.

I’m glad to see that they will bring Quidditch back for this movie.  I can’t wait to sing Weasley is our king!

I’m also glad that they will include more of the lighthearted elements from the story plus the really cool romantic line between Harry and Ginny.

I’m both very excited and concerned with how they will conclude the last 20 minutes of the film.  Part of me really hopes they stay true to the book and put all of it in it would make for good movie magic but the other part of me isn’t sure if I want to see it.  July couldn’t come sooner but don’t forget your reading assignment one complete scroll on the Tales of Beedle The Bard.

Ayn Rand, Teacher of Voldemort

When I saw Linn and Ari Armstrong's letter to the Editor at the Grand Junction Free Press titled,  Why Harry Potter fans should read Ayn Rand, I spit out my coffee. The idea that children should be exposed to the greed praising Ayn Rand is nothing less than silly or perverse.

In her books, Rand praises as virtues:

  • selfishness
  • the primacy of the individual over the community
  • the ability to ignore the suffering of others
  • the belief that, "if I want it I should have it, and no one should have the right to stand in my way."
  • certain groups should be looked down upon and shunned because we have chosen to class them as lesser beings.

These core beliefs are the beliefs of Voldemort, not Harry Potter.  The Dark Lord is the perfect embodiment of greed supporting libertarian of Rand, and I would hope any child reading her books would be able to see that.

I know there are some who have been lulled into a passive stuppor by her fiction and have not spent much time thinking about the "virtues" Rand advocated.  Her extreme brand of self-relaince to the exclusion of the needs of others is not what our children need to be exposed to.

She will fill Bellatrix Lestrange's shoes

C.E. Dorsett This is a great casting choice:

Helena Bonham Carter, an Oscar nominee for The Wings of the Dove, who most recently starred in the hit film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has joined the all-star cast of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Bonham Carter will play Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black's cousin and a Death Eater, who is one of Lord Voldemort's followers (WB Press Release).

She looks like Lestrange, and will be able to pull off the role. I can't wait to see this film.
