drag me to hell

DVD Releases: October 13, 2009

Out this week we have three DVDs to feature:  Legend of the Seeker: The Complete First Season, Drag Me to Hell, Land of the Lost.  Do we Love It, Rent it, or Avoid Like Plague?

[reus name="LOTS season1 DVD"]

Love It

Rent It

  • Drag Me to Hell: I'm just not sure about this one.  I like Sam Rami so that is a plus, it got decent reviews another plus and the premise kind of hooks me.  That said I have been tortured by bad movies claiming to be horror for too long and I am concerned that this one might drag the viewer through a tortuous experience (not the good kind) to watch this movie.  Maybe I'm too much of a cowered or have too much suffering in my own life to risk it on this movie. please someone who has watched it clear up this F.U.D. (fear, uncertainty & doubt) and give me a reason to watch this movie.

  • Land of the Lost:  The trailer looks funny which originally peeked my interest.  Will Ferrell is funny but also a hit or miss for me with his movies.  After it got tanked in the reviews I became more cautious about Land of the Lost but I have not given up on the movie because most of the complaints are that it's too cheesy which is exactly what the original show was like.  I may still watch this one but it does not go very high on my rental list.

Exploring: Drag Me to Hell

drag-me-to-hell-posterDrag Me to Hell is about a loan officer who is ordered to evict an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse which turns her life into a living nightmare. Desperate, she turns to a seer for help, and learns she only has a short period of time before she is literally ushered into Hell.  It hits theaters May 29.

  • Buy it / Rent it
  • Sam Rami writes, directs, and produces this horror movie and so I'm very interested in it.

Drag Me to Hell is Sam Rami's return to horror movies in 22 years which has generated a lot of buzz and curiosity.  His last horror movie was Evil Dead II.

I have hopes that it will avoid some of the more common mistakes of horror like showing too much too early and not using the audiences imagination to make the tale personally scary.  It's received good early reviews and if I have time this would also be a theater for me.

Let me know what you think, watch the trailer below.  Will you go to see Drag me to Hell  in the theater or rent it?  If you have seen it in the theater should I go see it and why?
