Marvel’s Planet Hulk Premier

hulk-planet-hulkMarvel premiered Planet Hulk at the Paley Center for a lucky select audience to rave reviews. I can’t wait for February 2nd when Planet Hulk is released to DVD.  You can preorder your copy from Amazon here.

Based on the comic Incredible Hulk: Planet Hulk Smash Into the Planet Hulk Trailer.  The Hulk was a monster, impossible to control, too dangerous to ignore. So Earth’s mightiest heroes exiled him into outer space. But now The Incredible Hulk crash-lands on the distant planet Sakaar, ruled by the tyrannical Red King. Sold into slavery, the Hulk becomes the planet’s mightiest gladiator—but his new masters get more than they bargained for when he forges a bond of brotherhood with his fellow fighters: crafty insectoid Miek, ruthless rock-man Korg, ex-shadow pirest Hiroim, and the noble-born rebel Elloe. Unlike Earth, the desperate people of Sakaar believe a monster is just what they need. But will the Hulk be the one to save their world…or destroy it?

Marvel has done such a great job with their direct to DVD movies.  I have watched, bought, and love each one of these.

The Avengers Reborn into Heroes of Tomorrow

The Next Avengers Heroes of TomorrowThe Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow is fifth in a series of animated Marvel Comics movie by Lions Gate Entertainment.  It will be released on September 2, 2008.  The first sneak peek of the film was featured on the Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme animated movie but was under the name Avengers Reborn which sounds much cooler.

I'm excited to see this one because they did such a great job with the other movies.  That said I also have some concerns.  This movie has a PG ratting instead of the usual PG-13 rating that the other movies have.  I hope that they didn't dumb down the story or make it too kidsy to get the PG rating.

Plot / Story: The Avengers united to protect earth against evil and after defeating earths enemies they returned to their personal lives. They fell in love, had children Captain America and Black Widow had a son, Thor had a daughter, Black Panther had a prince, Hawk Eye a son, Giant Man and Wasp had a son.

Ultron arrives on earth wanting total domination but the Avengers stand in his way. One by one with his knowledge of their weaknesses he defeated each avenger. They hid away their children from Ultron to have hope for the future.

Now with the hope of the future in their hands Iron Man and The Hulk must raise and train the children so that one day they may unite the Next Avengers and overthrow Ultron.

  • Voice Actors: Tom Kane, Dempsey Pappion, Aidan Drummond, Brenna O'Brien, Fred Tatasciore
  • Director: Jay Oliva
  • Studio: Lions Gate

As a little side note Giant Man is the scientific genius Hank Pym also known as Ant-Man.  So no worries he and Wasp have a son.

Guillermo del Toro dreams Doc Strange?

docstrange After bringing Hellboy to life in the brilliant film, and getting his name in the running for every exciting film project in the next couple years: The Hobbit, At the Mountains of Madness, and Frankenstein, now Guillermo del Toro has said that he wants to direct a Doc Strange flick, and that he has been talking to Neil Gaiman about writing the script. This is my darkest dream come true. I know it is only a rumor, and that his is nothing but wishful thinking on his part, but I cannot imagine a better match to bring Doc Strange to the Big Screen. I hope the stars align and we see this flick come to life.

The animated video Doctor Strange

I watched a great animated video a couple of days ago. It is called Doctor Strange and was released straight to video on August 14, 2007. This is a superhero video using one of the marvel characters. The video was dark and the action tight. Going into this film I had no fore knowledge of the Dr. Strange character or comic but I was still able to really enjoy the story and didn’t leave the film feeling like I was left out, yet I could tell that there was some things put in certain places that were for the comic fans too. This amazing balance is a hard one to reach and I applaud them for obtaining it. The tale opens with an intense chase scene with the pupils of the Ancient One pursuing a servant of Dormammu. This chase passes by the car of the gifted and selfish Dr. Strange. The tale continues and Dr. Strange is struck with a tragedy that sets him on a path to recover his life. During the quest he is led to the training temple of the Ancient One and receives healing and instruction while there.

One of the qualities that I really enjoyed in this tale was the clear development of the character of Dr. Strange. In the beginning he is a selfish, self-obsessed, cruel, haunted man. They did a great job of creating a feeling of disgust and pity over his character in the start of the film, I found my self caring about the character because I knew something obviously led him to be the creep that was before me and yet he was still a creep that could just walk away from the woman’s suffering. Then as the tale goes on we learn about what happened to him that hardened his heart and we watch Dr. Strange forgive himself and grow into a wonderful person. It was quite a delightful experience that gave so much depth to the story. The setting and animation was wonderful and crisp. The movement was fluid and action dynamic. One aspect of the setting that I really enjoyed was how the creators limited the abilities of the magic users. Everyone learned how to manipulate their environment by realizing the oneness of it all but each person was limited to their own innate abilities. This way each character had both power and limitation, they did a great job of showing both. This helped to give great tension as you watch the characters being powerful and when they were faced with their limitations their downfall as well.
