Get your copy of The Dark Knight on DVD and help support the project IMDB presented their top 25 searched for films of 2008.  They wanted to go for a ranking that was not based on box-office performance or critical assessments.  I was pleasantly surprised to see how many speculative fiction movies were on the list.

  2. Twilight (2008)
  3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
  4. TR2N (2011) Tron 2, I still don’t really care for the name

Not Another Reboot Movie Punishment

In recent years we've seen franchise reboot after franchise reboot. The Hulk, Batman, Star Trek, The Punisher just to name a few. And now we have yet another reboot of...The Punisher? In word handed down via interview for iFMagazine with director Lexi Alexander, the movie is

More of a reboot like THE INCREDIBLE HULK, than a direct sequel to the 2004 reboot that starred Thomas Jane, PUNISHER: WAR ZONE stars Ray Stevenson (ROME) as Frank Castle, a one-man avenging force out to take down all organized crime in retribution for the death of his family many years ago.

Now I have nothing nothing against reboots if they are properly done, but it seems Hollywood has gotten lazy. It was only four years ago that the last reboot of The Punisher franchise was done, and I loved it. Now they're doing it again and saying they'll do the same story even better. No longer are they willing to spend the money for original ideas they are settling for rebooting reboots. We need fresh ideas, fresh creative works, new blood. This trend is unacceptable. Make Hollywood take notice, that we are a force to be reckoned with and will not be placated with the same stories over and over and over again. If you see a fan film support it, if you like an indie film buy it, if they have merchandise wear it.

The Incredible Hulk Smashes onto DVD

hulk Smashing into our living rooms on DVD, October 21 is The Incredible Hulk.  A must own movie! There are some problems with the story line and maintaining the immaculate reality of the experience but overall they kept true to the spirit of the Hulk. I really enjoyed this version of the Hulk even though it had it’s flaws it got a lot right.  You can read my full review in Exploring: The Incredible Hulk.

The Incredible Hulk is a tale about Bruce Banner the Geneticist and his quest for a cure for a condition that turns him into a raging monster known as the Hulk. All the while the military is hunting down Bruce Banner so that they can learn how to control the Hulk and use Bruce’s research to create super soldiers. In the end they only create an even more deadly monster known as The Abomination.

Exploring: Hulk vs Wolverine 2009 Movie

Hulk_vs_Wolverine Have you ever wondered who would win in a fight between The Incredible Hulk and Wolverine?  What about watching it on the screen in front of you.  On January 2009 Lionsgate and Marvel Animation have teamed up to bring us a direct to DVD animated movie Hulk vs Wolverine.  Watch the Trailer Here! Ultimate-wolverine-vs-hulkFor those of us who already know how that match unfolded because we read Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk Marvel comic miniseries we may still be surprised.  They have changed the story some from that epic comic.

The Hulk is loose rampaging through the Canadian Wilderness.  To stop him Canadian's Department H sends out Wolverine their elite agent.  This is the wild Wolverine before the X-Men days and without some of the tempering from Professor Xavier.  The clash results in a fierce battle.  We also know that Dead Pool will make an appearance.

I'm excited to hear how the animators are pleased with this project.  They were able to take off the gloves and not have to worry about censoring themselves.  Since this is a direct to DVD project and not for TV they can unleash Hulk, Wolverine and Dead Pool allowing them to act as they should.  How would you decide who would win in a fight between The Incredible Hulk and Wolverine?

The Avengers Program Who Will Make The Cut

Get your copy of The Avengers animated movie here The rumblings of a special team being put together has received some new light recently.  With mixed results from the super soldier program Marvel sheds some more light on their Avenger project.  They really proved their capabilities to handle this project with Iron Man and The Hulk.  So now we are left wondering who will be in the avenger movie? The lineup has changed some as they are working on the individual film but Favreau tells us that "The ones Marvel is talking about now are Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man and Iron Man."

He left out Nick Fury, I hope it is only a slip up because Samuel Jackson was awesome as Nick Fury in the cut scene after the credits in Iron Man.  He didn't get to show up in Hulk other than in name.  Then again I don't expect him to have his own movie but I hope to see him have some cameo roles in the future films.

Iron Man was in theaters in May

Hulk just came out in theaters

Thor is scheduled for June 4 2010

Ant-Man doesn't have a time set yet for the film but he could be placed into the Iron Man 2 film scheduled for April 30 2010.

The First Avenger: Captain America: May 6 2011

It's all still a ways off so we will have to see what changes between now and then.  One of my concerns is how much will the Avengers movie cost if they have a full cast of headlining actors & actresses?  This could be the limiting factor on any Avenger movie where they will have to do something either getting them to share more of the cut of the film or to have a smaller number of superheros in any given film.  I found it interesting when Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' president of production, put forth the idea of "heroes can cross into each other's adventures and occasionally team up if there's a foe too great for any one of them to handle."  This could be a way to have Avengers films with out having to have more then a few headliners in any one film and to maintain a sense of setting consistency.

I applaud Marvel Studios for taking on such a large project in a fan friendly manner and for not trying to cut corners.  I do not envy them for having to make some very hard choices regarding how to fit in a ton of superheros into an avenger film which is what I would love to see yet staying within budget for talent costs and to have enough money left over to make sure that the effects look great.  Good luck, and God speed, I eagerly await the next project.

Exploring: The Incredible Hulk

Review of: The Incredible Hulk Overall Rating: 9.0   The Incredible Hulk

Finally not another origin story! The Incredible Hulk was a good movie and fun to watch but not as good as Iron Man. I'm really pleased to see Marvel's positive influence on these projects. The movie is an exciting ride with a nice balance between action, drama, and suspense that carried me through the emotions of the story. There are some problems with the story line and maintaining the immaculate reality of the experience but overall they kept true to the spirit of the Hulk and I really appreciate that.

Likes

  • The opening credits is brilliant: they cover the origin story in a few minutes and put in a lot of fun references.
  • The way they ease us into the hulk: His first appearance is mostly from the shadows with only glimpses to help acclimate the audience with his look.
  • the way they show the bullets and darts just bending and bouncing off of his skin. The really neat thing is that they do show on occasion lacerations in the hulks skin when the attack is sever enough to merit it. The 50 caliber rounds looked awesome when they dented his skin.
  • The emotion that they were able to animate into the Hulk was amazing. Like Gollum before him the Hulk was really able to connect on an emotional level with the audience.
  • The Cameos: Stan Lee, Lou Ferrigno
  • I liked the references subtly placed throughout the movie to Stark Industries, Nick Fury, and S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • They used most of the Hulk's famous lines / attacks in a tasteful and story appropriate manner.
  • The very end / the last page: not going to give a spoiler but after seeing it you will get it.

Dislikes / Concerns

  • The skin of the hulk was too gelatinous and too textured: probably due to rendering or compositing issues because the animation was so well done.
  • The love scene: it was funny but distracted me from the movie and shattered the immaculate reality. Personally I had a Mallrats moment and Brodie wouldn't get out of my head.
  • The story had some issues: I didn't like the mcguffin of the cure and found the Emil Blonsky story line far more interesting and would have like it more if that became the dominate storyline.
  • The end helicopter scene shown in the trailer still bothered me and seeing it in context didn't save it. I realize they needed a tension relief and I did chuckle because it was a funny moment but it completely took me out of the story and reminded me I was watching a film not experiencing it.

Theater or Renter: The Incredible Hulk

The Plot / Story: The Incredible Hulk, also known as Hulk 2, is a tale about Bruce Banner the Geneticist and his quest for a cure for a condition that turns him into a raging monster known as the Hulk that lives within him. The military wants to learn how to control the Hulk and use Bruce’s research to create super soldiers. In the end they only create an even more deadly monster known as The Abomination. Even though this is the second in the recent Hulk series they are not ignoring the original nor continuing events put forth in that film.

I gave the trailer a 4 out of 5. It's fairly exciting and I think it will accurately represent the movie but it lacks any romance to it. The trailer shows me Bruce Banner's situation and the government's obsessive desire to have his abilities to make super soldiers. We get to see the Hulk raging and being attacked by the military ... some neat footage. The cool thing is that they gave us a reveal of Abomination and show us a little bit of their face off.

This will be a theater for me because I love the Hulk and the experience of this type of movie will be best on the big screen. I have a lot of reservations over the film. It's yet another origin story... maybe. They are ambiguous about it's relation to the other Hulk movie although they have revealed that it will have more to do with the TV show. I also have concerns with how the Hulk will look. That being said I will have to see over the weekend and let you know.

Well, the cleanup program failed with the exception of this one little robot and he's left on Earth doing his duty all alone. He doesn't know he can't stop working. "The Incredible Hulk" Feature Video

Image of The Abomination from The Incredible Hulk movie The good people over at Universal and Marvel released a new feature video for The Incredible Hulk movie. We have the video over in the Project: Shadow HQ for you to watch.

Buy your copy of The Incredible Hulk - The Complete First SeasonAfter watching the feature I was more excited about the movie. In it they they discuss how this is a re-envisioning of the Hulk. Although it is a re-envisioning they also really looked to the 80's television series for their inspiration.

In the feature they gave the appearance that they will pick up where the last movie left off with Bruce on the run from the government as he is in search for a cure.

They also talk about the tension device used in this story. Part of it is the standard hulk tension of Banner's desire to get rid of the Hulk and the government's desire to control the Hulk to use as a weapon. In this movie the tension eventually gets manifested when the Hulk has to stop the government's version of the hulk called The Abomination.

This feature got me a little more interested in the movie but I'm still not excited about the look of it. That being said I will let you know my final decision in Junes Theater or Renter feature.

"The Incredible Hulk" Trailer

hulk-trailer (sigh) I have seen many things in the movies that amazed me and made me buy in instantly that some fantastical thing on the screen because it looked so real. I have believed in Jedi and SIth, vampires, and monsters of every kind that you can imagine, and even some I could not have.

Why, then, is it impossible to bring the Hulk to the big screen without making it cartoonish?

I don't mind it if it is supposed to be animated, but animation mixed with live action is for Mary Poppins, not The Incredible Hulk. I can only hope that this is a side effect of video compression for the web.

See "The Incredible Hulk" trailer at Project: Shadow HQ.

(via After Elton)

The game is better than the Movie?

C.E. Dorsett [sigh] I just knew some S.O.B without an iota of respect for anything but their own vile lusts for destruction and power to fill their sad and powerless life would one day write something like this. An evil heart will tell:

Ah, the subtle pleasures of intergalactic fascism. My flotilla of TIE fighters swarmed through space like locusts, picking off rebel troops at will. My mammoth Star Destroyers had reduced a rebel base to a smoldering hulk, and Darth Vader had personally blown up Millennium Falcon and killed that jackass Han Solo -- twice (Wired).

Any jackanape that would revel in fascism in any of its disgusting genocidal forms has problems, but I do not fault this nudnik. People love to revel in evil. It gives them a sense of power that they otherwise lack. The imagery and iconography of the empire my be alluring, but I am concerned about the person who relishes in the genocidal nature of any villainous group. It can be fun, even exhilarating, to play an evil character, but when we celebrate that evil we need to consider what we are doing carefully.

I know what you are thinking: You are a fan of Cradle of Filth, and death rock and you are going to wax piously about morality! Well, I do have an affinity for dark imagery, and I do love vampires and supernatural horror in general, but I would never support fascism. Even in games when I play the empire or the Sith, I feel a distance from the role. There is a difference between exploring dark emotions and celebrating fascism.

He continues:

Normally, I cringe whenever Lucas launches another movie. Ever since the Ewoks appeared in 1983's Return of the Jedi, his films have steadily tobogganed downwards into a vale of unwatchability. It's hard to figure out what Lucas has done worse: Is it his increasingly Disneyfied characters? His wooden scripts? Or the plots that, having been carefully denuded of action sequences, instead focus on, y'know, trade disputes (Wired)?

This is someone who doesn't get it. Okay, I admit it: I am not a big fan of the Ewoks, but that was Lucas' choice. George Lucas is Star Wars. If you don't like that, you don't like Star Wars. This man is obviously not a fan. He doesn't care about Star Wars or its setting and should just admit as much. He comes close:

Why were the games so comparatively good? A cynic would say it's because Lucas probably isn't as closely involved in the games, so his young designers aren't hampered by his inane creative decisions. But I actually suspect it's deeper than that. I think it's because games are beginning to rival film -- and even eclipse it -- as the prime vehicle for sci-fi and fantasy (Wired).

What?? SciFi and Fantasy have become dominate as video games, because most games are nothing but random guts of mass murder. SF is perfect for this because the choice of things to kill is infinite. There is nothing particularly SF about any of these games. If you are tired of killing people in Vietnam or World War II, then kill people on Tatoonine... SF is more than a place for people to be gunned down

Action scenes are fun, and I write my share, but they do not make something SF. STORY DOES! Few SF games offer anything in the lines of an enthralling story. Black and White (and it's sequels), Final Fantasy, Knights of the Old Republic, and Oddworld are the only ones who come to mind. Most are inane first person shooters or military games that have a veneer of SF.

Story is dying, and may soon go away. I pray God that games do not replace the simple please of watching a movie, or better still reading a book.

70s Hulk to fight Real Crime

C.E. Dorsett Something about this story just tickled me, and I couldn't stop grinning:

The star of 70s TV show The Incredible Hulk has a new role - as a part-time police officer in Los Angeles.

Lou Ferrigno, 54, has been sworn in as a reserve deputy sheriff and will volunteer for 20 hours each month (BBC News).

I guess it is because I grew up watching the Incredible Hulk on TV and reading the comics, but the idea of Lou Ferrigno fighting crime thrills me.
