Cyclops Pig Is Just Creepy

"This is just creepy:

In Guatemala a monstrous pig was born just after a string of strange UFO sightings.  The pig was was born with what appears to be more of a human like face.

A birth defect

It is a birth defect.  That much is apparent in the fact that pig does not look like the millions of other pigs born.

The debate resides in the source for the birth defect.  There is a lot of speculation over aliens being behind because of the sightings.  Others point to a more terrestrial source for the defect like genetic mutation or pollutants in the environment.

I'm surprised that I haven't heard much association between these events and the past reports on governments secretly working on splicing pig and human together.  Then again no one would be irresponsible enough as to take lab animals and secretly dump them into the wild.

Will It Survive?

I would love to see updates as to how long it lives, and what it looks like after it grows up, if it does."

Ideas For a Cthulu Priest Throne

I was looking over a Trendland article about Maximo Riera's Animal Collection and it got me thinking.

His chair collection is an odd assortment that mashes up animals and chairs.  That said it is also very evocative and got my imagination churning especially the piece from the picture.

I started to think what would a cool throne chair look like for a high priest of Cthulu if they took more of this style into the design.

lets start with a nice throne with a high back on it maybe even gold colored like a papal throne.  Then put the octopus on the top facing forward with it's tentacles oozing down over the chair in a gelatinous way.  Instead of a plush material use leather so that the octopus will look more life like and it still be comfortable to sit against but still have the tentacles be raised up.  Then fill in all of the background color of the chair with a gloss black color like still dark water.  This will also help to evoke a sole eating madness for those staring at the chair too long.  What do you think?

Giant Crocodile IRL

When beholding an image of a real life Giant Crocodile my first thought is astonishment.  That says a lot for someone who watches a many episodes of river monsters and other shows like it as I have.  This 21 foot long crocodile is a great reminder that large reptilian dinosaur like creatures do still exist, roam about and are a present danger even in our modern day.

Coventry Poltergeist video

Before I comment on the video, take a look at it, and make up your own mind.

I am not a skeptic, as you all know, but I have 3 problems with this video.

1. The Video Quality is poor

Poor video covers a multitude of sins.  As the door opens, the video quality is poor enough to cover any monofiliment string that may have been used.  I can not tell if one was there or not.

2. The Chair is not Fully in Frame

I cannot see the legs of the chair.  I am not going to assume that that unseen hand is not out of frame simply because I am not told to.

3. The Edit in the Middle

The edit occurs between the first chair move and the second.  Even the director of Paranormal Activity knew they needed to move into fast forward when between spooky events to help the audience believe that nothing was changed between the first spooky and the second.  I am not going to risk insulting Uma Therman by assuming that the set up of the second chair move was not set up during the edit.

Whether it is a hoax or not, the necessary controls are not in place to prove it wasn't hoaxed.  Anyone wanting to document the paranormal needs to take steps to ensure validation of their evidence.

UFO in China Airport

An unidentified flying object (UFO) forced Xiaoshan Airport in Hangzhou, China to cease operations on July 7.

This is an interesting looking video.  It's nice to have more context for the size with the inclusion of the buildings on the ground.  At first I thought the light could have been projected up onto the clouds but latter in the video it appears that the light is being projected down.

I think they said it best:

Truth be told, there's not much left to be said. Something weird happened. Nobody knows what it was. And if they do, they aren't saying.

Thanks very much to Emerian Rich for sharing this

The Guild's Lil’ Guildies

Hilarious, bizarre fun with The Guild.  The Lil’ Guildies.  The video was originally for an April Fools joke, it just cracks me up.

I love the "Ye Must Be Yay High To Plunder!" Sign.  It gives me ideas like one for my house "Ye Must Be This Drunk To PLunder!"

And for those of you wondering about Season 4, don’t worry, it’s coming.  We’ll have some announcements coming soon.

For those who want more of Vork's Monkey watch below.

Most Captivating, Useless Machine Ever: DIY Instructions and Video

Titled:  The most useless machine ever!

Though it may be useless it's really captivating.  I just can't take my eyes off the image.

Update: Video and instructions to make your own

Thank you very much SaskView from who was inspired by a video of the machine made one of his own and shared the instructions on how to build it with everyone!

Build It Your Self

SaskView's instructions consist of 9 steps.  I love how he takes the first step to cover the background on the project, how he got into it and who built the original.  The second step goes into the how it works which is great because this gives the understanding to help with not only building but for the builder to add their mods and personal touches to the process.  The remaining 7 steps gets into the meat of the instructions.  Get all the steps here from Instructables

Weird: The Muppets Big Mean Carl's Stand By Me

ROFL, Muppets they will be the death of me.  I love these videos a little too much.

Big Mean Carl sings / performs Stand By Me Ben E. King - Ben E. King: Anthology - Stand by Me.  The chorus is hilarious plus the end of the video has the two grumpy men joke comments.

What do you think about doing some kind of weekly shtick consisting of a mashup inspired by them and worse persons for Fandom Today?

The Real 3D Pet Sematary

Upon hearing Matthew Greenberg is hired to do a remake of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary I remembered my first experience of the movie.  It was a truly terrifying movie because of the setting and peripheral events making it a true 3D experience. I watched Pet Sematary for the first time as a young child at the family’s old farmhouse in Connecticut.  It is one of those scary type of old houses built in the 1800’s.  Complete with secret passageways and even a mud floor basement. It is probably haunted if not the feel would leave one believing every old creek and bump in the night was due to paranormal activity.

It was a late warm summer night when we started the movie.  The window was open to let in a cooling breeze.  The Lights turned off so the only eerie glow in the room was cast from the television.  Strange shadows danced about the room as it flickered.

Just as the movie reaches it’s climatic moment it happened.  Something big moved past the window.  We know it was big because its footsteps thumped in the soft grass.  With each impact the animal huffed.  The kind of huff that is a mix of an exhale and a growl, low, rumbling.

In an instance the gun rack was emptied.  Light flashed about the room from both the overhead lights and the flashlights that each armed occupant now carried. It amazes me how fast all of us moved  both to secure the area and to search for whatever it was outside.

The oddest thing, we never found what it was that moved past the window.  No animal left lurking in the yard and no tracks left in the soft ground outside of the window.

It will be somewhere where psychics can go to meet like-minded people, to further their interests and develop their psychic senses.” He said.

Proof of a Dinosaur Eating Snake

Snake eats alligator move over for we have found a fossilized proof of a snake eating a dinosaur.  At first I thought it was like something out of a 50’s B movie. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your perspective it turns out that the snake was 11.5 foot long and the dinosaur was a new born 1.6 foot long.

Odd: Live to 100, Just Take a Pill

Breakthrough pill to help people live to 100

The pill is based on immitating [sic] the effects of three super-genes that make people 20 times more likely to live to be 100 and 80 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s or other similar diseases. The new pill is expected to be ready for testing within three years.

This would be awesome!  Not only give a nice extension on ones lifespan but to reduce the chances of Alzheimer’s or other similar diseases.

Sounds too good to be true?

Possibly, The quest for the philosopher's stone goes back for millennium and shows up in speculative fiction in many forms.  My first reaction to this is to sigh and think ‘ah, another snake oil salesman.’  What is fun with this pill concept is that they gave it some credibility by tying it to the longevity effects of genes.

There is ongoing research into human longevity.  Most of the successful results are tied to tweaking the subjects (mostly worms) genes.  A while back I watched a fascinating news piece on the longevity research and it’s results.  They were successful in extending even doubling the life span but there was a catch.  It doubled all of the lifespan which means twice as long as an infant, puberty twice as long, and the declining years taking twice as long.  Would this extension and payoff for the extension of life really be any increase in the quality of life?

The ethical questions raised were fascinating.  If one could live longer what quality of life would they get for it?

Would you be willing to take a pill to extend your life to 100 years?  Would you still be willing to take a pill if it had to be taken on a regular basis?

Odd: Alien verses the Giant Spider

Cerbalus Aravensis, a giant spider was discovered in Israel.  Reigning in at 5.5 inches to 6 inches across it is huge.

To put it into context and to share in my own skin crawling realization on just how big that is I want you to remember the Alien movies.  Remember those nasty face-huggers that would crawl around and leap out at it’s unsuspecting victim, wrapping it’s self around their face.

The size of this spider is around the size of the face-huggers from the Alien movies.  That is huge

It’s a nocturnal hunter using trap doors to get it’s prey.

Sanctuary: The Abnormal Reality of A Vampire Squid

Sanctuary-vampire-squidI really enjoyed watching Sanctuary episode 208 Next Tuesday.  In it they were hunting a Vampire Squid off the Gulf of Mexico.  In the setting it’s a rare, docile abnormal and I wondered what is the real Vampire Squid like? Unlike in the show the real Vampire Squid or Vampyroteuthis infernalisgets to a maximum of one foot in total length.  Big enough to battle a scorpion but not big enough to pull a person under the water.

They also differ by having a webbing connecting the eight arms so it could not do battle with those individual arms.  It does have two additional filaments that are like a squid’s tentacles which do reach well beyond their arms.

vampire-squidWhat I found particularly fascinating about the Vampire Squid are all of the light-producing organs covering it.  It has great control over the individual organs that they can produce a disorienting light show with them, varying the intensity and size.  If only I could have one in my fish tank, turn off the lights, sit back and enjoy the show.

I wished Sanctuary would have spent more on their version of the Vampire Squid.  What makes them an abnormal beyond their intelligence?  Part of me hoped they would be more of a humanoid octopus hybrid.

Odd: Worms’ Paralyzed By a Freeze Ray

doctor-horrible-freeze-rayI love how the National Geographic article begins referencing the “freeze ray” in Dr. Horrible.  It puts a smile on my face to see references to sci-fi in the mainstream scientific world.  Gives me hope that dreams are given the chance to possibly take shape. The freeze ray is far from reality, What researchers have done is put a light sensitive chemical into the nematodes.

“Upon UV exposure, the normally clear chemical turns blue, and it shuts down the worms' metabolism… A shot of visible light restored the worms to normal, and the animals slowly began to wiggle around "as if they had never been paralyzed," the study authors say.” -National Geographic

I wonder if this could have applicable uses for putting things in stasis.

For now the process is far from practice use though since the chemical was eventually fatal to the worms.

Kudos Maine Office of Tourism Featuring Cryptozoology

The Main Office of Tourism website gets a tip of the hat today for featuring the International Cryptozology Museum on their site (Maine Office of Tourism website).

icm_map_local1They did this without any approach from the museum, and we find this encouraging in terms of our efforts to elevate the public educational mission of the museum, as a gateway to adventure and scientific exploration for tourists, travelers, and Maine residents.

It’s always nice to see the main stream engage in adventures of imagination and mystery recognizing that need in all of us.

It’s important for those state and public resource site to not only feature the touristy places, theme parks, commercial centers but also the more abstract cultural spots as well.

Bahai “Sea Serpent” Discovered

I really don't know what to make of this thing:

The previously unknown species has been found off Brazil’s Bahia coast. It is more than six feet long, has small teeth, and has no scales covering its gelatinous body. It is a fish, not a serpent, of course (Cryptomundo).

I've made no secret out of the fact that natural bodies of water freak me out, and this real jelly/fish is just bazar.

What do you think this is?
