Yes, you heard right they will be setting up an touring exhibit featuring the Harry Potter films. Why not include the books, I don't know. The project is in it's earliest development stages so they may go back and include in book stuff latter.
Harry Potter the Exhibition will be a 10,000 square foot exhibit featuring all kinds of stuff from the films. They are planning on premiering it in the spring of 2009 and running it for a 5 year tour appearing in over 10 cities around the world. That is not a lot of places especially for a world tour so hopefully they will add more cities to the schedule. For me that definitely means a road trip.
The exhibit is to feature authentic costumes, props and as worded in the press release "props and artifacts from environments." They do clarify that and it means stuff from the set like the Gryffindor common room and Hagrid's hut.
This sounds like a really neat exhibit to see, I can only hope that they would include in some book stuff, like maybe a display of the different cover art or some of the other books like The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
They do have plans to update the exhibit to include new materials introduced in the last two films.
