New John Carter Story Trailer With Rant

The new trailer for John Carter is here:

I have read a couple sad reviews of the trailer from people who have never read the books, so I  thought I would take a moment to respond.

While I am not yet convinced this is going to be a good or great movie, I take umbrage with the people who are saying that this movie is a knock off of Star Wars and Avatar...

The first Barsoom book was published in 1912.  That is all that needs to be said.  The books came first, and the movies that came after it inherited themes and imagery from it.  I know it is a lot to ask from internet folk to get their facts straight, but they need to do it.

I hope the film benefits from the technology used in Star Wars and Avatar, that will only make it a better movie, but that does not mean it copied them unless the filmmakers went off script.

What is a gaming community?

Chistina Kelly put together this great presentation on what makes a gaming community, and it really made me think:

I think the problem that we are all facing an issue about how to bring in people in a way that they contribute to the project, without clouding the issue of copyright and ownership to the point where no one can make money off it.  This presentation is a great start.

Foo Fighters smack down the Haters

**The Videos in this post are Not Safe for Work**

There are people in this world who have absolutely no sense of humor.  I don't even want to say their name, but a certain group of ultra-right wing homophobes became upset when the Foo Fighters, a band with a brilliant sense of humor, released their video for Hot Bun.

The homoerotic trucker pastiche enraged these, well out of generosity, I will call them people (link), and they announced they were going to picket an upcoming Foo Fighter's concert.

So, How did the Foo Fighter's respond?

That's right, they pulled up in front of the protesters dressed in their costumes from the Hot Buns video on the bed of a truck performing a country parody of Keep it Clean that can be heard at the beginning of the video.

Brilliant! Love it.  This is the way to fight hate.  The best part of the video is watching the people who came to protesting them break out in laughter and bop along to the song.

Episode 100 would be in the middle of Season 5, so the series is likely to go up to 110+ episodes..."  I expect to see more conflicts but not to see the connecting episode to lead up to Star Wars Episode 3 until next season.

Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 4 Preview - "Water War"

This fun preview shows Kit Fisto in action, for some reason I just can not get enough of that jedi.  We will also get to see Captain Ackbar in action as a youth before his imperial imprisonment and eventual rise to Admiral Ackbar.  Even though Ackbar will be in it he will not mention traps Filoni said at Comic Con pannel.

Water War is the First in the two part release for Clone Wars season four.  It is also the beginning of a three part story arc.

Plot:  The inhabitants of the watery world of Mon Calamari find themselves on the brink of a civil war. The Jedi soon realize they will need the help of a powerful and amphibious ally to stop the war and drive out the Separatist invaders.

The Jedi find themselves trapped by
sustained Separatist attacks. Can the Gungans save the day?

The second half and second episode is Gungan Attack.

Plot:  The Jedi find themselves trapped by sustained Separatist attcks.  Can the Gungans save the day?

I beleive this will take place on Naboo this is due to two peices of evidence.  First, in Clone Wars Season 4 Battle Lines Trailer there is a breif moment when Count Dooku mentions attacking Naboo.  Secondly, there are gungans involved in helping the Jedi from a sustained Seperatist attcks.

Both will premier on September 16th 2011

Clone Wars Season 4 Battle Lines Trailer

Clone Wars Season 4 starts back up on September 16th 2011 and I can not wait Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Season 4 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  Watch the trailer above.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Season 4 from iTunesThere are some really exciting things in the trailer like the fight between Asajj Ventress and General Grievous.  More Dathomir force witches. Anakin will struggle with some of his past and more of the dark side.  The Mandalorians are back with Death Watch and was that a lightsaber whip I saw toward the end or just and energy whip.

Was that Count Dooku ordering a rentless attack on Naboo?

First Look At American Pie 4: American Reunion

I love the photo booth trailer, watch the video above.  It's a brilliant piece of promotion showing me little but telling the emotional story of the next American Pie move American Reunion.  I get a wonderful sense of nostalgia when watching this trailer.

When the American Pie movies first hit the scene I underestimated it presuming the movie to be throwaway entertainment and hoping to maybe get a laugh out of it through crass humor.  Much to my delight I was very wrong.  The series has it's low brow humor, which is also very funny, but it also has a brilliant insight on life, friend and growing up.  It's predecessors were also well done with American Pie 3 American Wedding really bringing the quality back that the first movie had.

I'm really looking forward to watching American Pie 4: American Reunion.

Plot:  It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler's mom. Now after a decade has passed these lifelong friends have come home as adults for a long-overdue weekend to reminisce about—and get inspired by—the hormonal teens from long ago.  They will discover what has changed, who hasn't and that time and distance can't break the bonds of friendship.  (Wikipedia)

Pixar's "Brave" Trailer and Poster

Pixar's 2012 movie Brave looks great.  They also have a great cast involved with Billy Connolly and Emma Thompson as just a few to mention.  It's set in a 10 century Scotland with a touch of fantasy.  Watch the Trailer above.

Plot:  Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor . Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin , surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.  (Wikipedia)

Brave is scheduled for release on June 22, 2012.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Trailer

I want to like Ghost Rider.  In theroy everything about it should be awesome: motercycles, fire, rider of vengance.  Unfortunately I'm not that excited.

After the first Ghost Rider, should by all acounts rock was more of a meh, this trailer has a lot of work cut out for it.  I first saw it in 3D which looked bad, very bad.  The fire effect left my eyes hurting and was not helped when Conan started showing me what good 3D fire should look like.  Thankfully the 2D looks a lot better and gives me some hope.  Watch the trailer above.

Plot:  "Set several years after the first film, Johnny Blaze is in self-imposed exile from the world. Blaze has become a tormented soul, convinced that his powers are a curse. Former stuntman Blaze is then approached by Moreau, a member of the monastic order of Michael, the warrior angel. Moreau seeks a protector for a mother and son duo who are being pursued by a figure named Roarke – a fellow with a detailed knowledge of the Ghost Rider and his different identities over the centuries."  (Wikipedia)

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengance will hit theaters 2-17-12

Underworld Awakening Let Loose The Hunters

The trailer is out for Underworld Awakening and it looks awesome!  watch the trailer above.

This is set after Underworld Evolution. Looks like we will get to see human hunters enter the fight between the two clans and some hints that Michael might return as the abomination.

Plot:  "Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Underworld Awakening will hit theaters January 20, 2012.

The Muse heals the wings of a butterfly on a wheel

Trying to get an early start on the day, but it feels strange being up this early.  I feel like I should be getting ready for school, but I don't go to school any more...  strange.

Hopefully, I will be able to set a good direction for the week ahead.  I really want to get some stories about soon, but the pressure is starting to set in.  I have all the drive I ever did, but people read me now, and I don't want to disappoint them...

It is helpful that I decided to work on short stories and serials again, too many stories are fighting to get out.  I kind of need an assistant to organize all this.

Then, like my muse singing to me, Butterfly on a Wheel by The Mission (Spotify Link) starts playing.

For those who don't know the lyrics:

Silver and gold and it's growing cold
Autumn leaves lay as thick as thieves
Shivers down your spine chill you to the bone
'Cos the mandolin wind is the melody that turns
Your heart to stone

The heat of your breath carving shadows on the mist
Every angel has the wish that she's never been kissed

A broken dream haunting in your sleep
And hiding in your smile a secret you must keep
Love cuts you deep

Love breaks the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love breaks the wings of a butterfly on a wheel

There's no scarlet in you, lay your veil down for me
As sure as God made wine, you can't wrap your arms
Around a memory
Take warmth from me, cold Autumn winds cut sharp as
a knife
And in the dark for me, you're the candle flame that
Flickers to life

Love breaks the wings of a butterlfy on a wheel
Love will break the wings of a butterfly on a wheel

Wise men say all is fair in love and war
There's no right or wrong in the design of love
And I could only watch as the wind crushed your wings
Broken and torn crushed like the flower under the snow
And like the flower in spring
Love will rise again to heal your wings

Love heals the wings of a butterfly on a wheel
Love will heal the wings of a butterfly on a wheel

I love how something unexpected can happen and change your whole perspective. So I thought I would share some of my go to songs that make me want to write: (I really wanted to include "When I write my last song" by The Hatters, but the song is not on Youtube or iTunes, so I have to leave it out. A real shame that)
